In the recent announcement of the award recipients of the ‘Asean HR Awards 2020’, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, Roche Malaysia and Warisan TC Holdings Berhad triumphed in the sphere of Malaysian human resource excellence.  The announcement was made by HrHub.my through its recognition programme for outstanding corporations and personalities in the human resource field.

‘Asean HR Awards’ was established to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of personalities and businesses across all key sectors of the human resource industry in the Asean region. The awards programme also showcased the best in the human resource industry and practices. It is the hope of HrHub.my that the programme acts as a catalyst to bring the industry to the next level.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) was recognized for the category of Employer of the Year (Construction & Infrastructure) and also for Excellence in Workplace Culture. MRT Corp is a special purpose vehicle set up by the Government of Malaysia to be the developer and asset owner of the capital city MRT project. Besides delivering the MRT project on time and within target cost, MRT Corp is also entrusted with ensuring high levels of compliance with safety, health and environment standards and good welfare for employees involved in the project. The company knows that people are crucial to its success and it starts from getting the right people to do the right job.

Roche was also recognized for ‘Excellence in Workplace Culture’ under the pharmaceutical category. Warisan TC Holdings Berhad was on the awards list for Employer of the Year (Investment and Automotive), People-Focused CEO Award for its CEO, Tan Keng Meng, and HR Personality of the Year Award for its HR Head, Tan Li Yoon. Warisan TC is an investment holding company primarily in the business of travel and car rental, material handling equipments, construction machinery, agricultural tractors and power generating sets, assembling and distributing heavy duty trucks, and producing and retailing luxury consumer products.

According to Tan Keng Meng, “as a human resource professional, I strongly believe that people-focused culture will be one of the key elements to make a company successful and the person to drive this culture should start right at the top management and work hand-in-hand with the human resource department”. He also established the employee-first culture, where people are valued, inspired, encouraged, empowered and appreciated to bring the best out of them to work and contribute to the best interest of the company.

Meanwhile, Tan Li Yoon has realigned the company to respond to the dynamic changes in today’s business environment by creating better engagement among employees to revamping the entire organizational structure. It has resulted in producing an agile HR that has achieved increased efficiency, high productivity and improved employee engagement.

Among the SMEs, People Reengineering Consultancy Sdn Bhd was recognized with ‘Excellence in HR Innovation Award’ under the strategic human resource consulting category. The company is helmed by Harvard Choo, the Managing Director and is in the business of human resource consultancy.
