The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and YTL Cement have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing technical competencies and expanding professional development opportunities for engineers across the country.
The collaboration, formalised through a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) between IEM and CDL Academy, YTL Cement’s learning and development arm, is expected to provide a structured platform for continuous learning, industry engagement and career advancement within the engineering profession.
The MoU was signed by IEM President Ir. Yau Chau Fong and CDL Academy Chairman Dato’ Sr. Mohd Zaid Zakaria.
Under the partnership, both parties will work together to organise technical seminars, industry dialogues, workshops and professional development initiatives designed to equip engineers with the skills needed to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies and industry requirements.
A key highlight of the collaboration will be the inaugural IEM-YTL Cement Technical Symposium, scheduled to be held in conjunction with IEM’s Annual Engineering Exhibition & Conference (ENGINEER) in September this year.
The symposium, themed “Future-Ready Green Data Centres: Sustainable and High Productivity Engineering”, will focus on emerging developments in civil and structural engineering, as well as the growing role of sustainable construction materials in the development of modern data centre infrastructure.
Beyond knowledge-sharing initiatives, the partnership will also support the professional advancement of engineers through IEM’s Route to MIEM/PE programme.
As part of the effort, CDL Academy will provide graduate engineers with greater exposure to real-world industry practices through mentorship opportunities and practical learning experiences. The initiative is expected to help aspiring engineers gain the competencies required for Corporate Membership with IEM (MIEM) and eventually achieve Professional Engineer (PE) registration with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
The collaboration will also benefit engineering professionals within the YTL Cement Group by supporting their professional certification journey and strengthening industry-academia linkages.
Established in 2019, CDL Academy has conducted more than 100 learning programmes and training initiatives, benefiting over 10,000 participants. The academy serves as a key platform in YTL Cement’s efforts to nurture a highly skilled engineering workforce capable of meeting future industry demands while supporting innovation and sustainability objectives.
The latest partnership underscores the shared commitment of both organisations to developing engineering talent and strengthening Malaysia’s technical capabilities in line with the nation’s industrial growth ambitions.
