The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has arrested six individuals, including insured persons and suspected masterminds, for their alleged involvement in the falsification of documents linked to invalidity pension benefit claims.
Perkeso Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the arrests were carried out under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) following intelligence-led investigations conducted through Ops Stroke, in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), since Sept 3 last year.
Preliminary findings revealed that fraudulent claims had resulted in benefit payments totalling approximately RM220,000. However, swift enforcement action by Perkeso successfully prevented further losses.
“Had this document falsification syndicate not been disrupted early, the estimated financial impact could have reached RM3.78 million,” he said in a statement today.
Mohammed Azman stressed that Perkeso would take firm action against any party attempting to undermine the integrity of the nation’s social security system for personal gain, adding that such activities pose a serious threat to the long-term sustainability of the fund.
He also reminded contributors that all Perkeso claims are processed free of charge and that claimants are required to deal directly with the organisation, warning against the use of agents or intermediaries who may exploit or manipulate applicants.
“Perkeso continuously monitors all claims to ensure there are no elements of fraud or manipulation. Contributors are urged to remain honest and act with integrity when submitting any application,” he said.
According to him, any attempt to submit forged or misleading documents would not only result in claims being rejected but could also lead to legal action against those involved.
Mohammed Azman added that financial leakages arising from false claims could weaken Perkeso’s ability to provide assistance and protection to contributors who are genuinely eligible and in need, thereby jeopardising the resilience of the national social security framework.
