While welcoming the latest hiring method announced by the Human Resources Ministry, National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) said more must be done by the government on this long-awaited move to revive the economy.

NCCIM is a federation of five national trade organizations – the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia, Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers.

Generally, employers want the government to negotiate with the source countries of foreign labor to cap the recruitment fees charged by their agents overseas as the online application for the hiring of some 32,000 workers begin this month.

Employers are also calling for tax deductions to be allowed for expenses incurred for the Covid-19 screening and quarantine of foreign workers.

Last week, the HR Minister announced that online recruitment applications to hire foreign workers would be opened in stages this month and the month of February.

Online application for recruitment of foreign workers in the plantation sector through special exemption will be open from Jan 28 through the website www.fwcms.com.my

Applications for foreign workers for other sectors including the plantation sector without special exemption will be open from Feb. 15.
